Paired with a similarly hearty meal, it is sure to impress even the most devout lovers of traditional European Red. It is, however, some mighty darn expressive juice. It is not likely to comfort you when you’re down. The wine is pervasively sanguine with explosively granitic minerality, coaxed up through those ancient vines’ deep roots and into their lovingly tended fruit by winemakers who are deeply committed to producing a sincere expression of this vineyard in this vintage. As the sensation of firm tannin slowly relents between sips you’ll begin to experience the kind of intensity of minerality that is rarely witnessed in wines at ten times it’s modest price. Sturdy tannins frame boisterous notes of blueberry liqueur, baking chocolate, and dried plums. As soon as you have a sip the wine takes control. The first things you’ll notice are the relatively light color in the glass and the sleek nose of fresh cranberry relish and potpourri. This week’s special, the organically farmed 2018 Bululú is an intriguing glass of wine. Old vine, Organically farmed, Spanish Garnacha is a heck of a good treat! Garnacha, or Grenache if you prefer, is capable of producing such a wide range of different styles of wine from delicate, rosy Reds that mirror Rose to hearty, tannic monsters with virtually limitless aging potential. You’re going to want to sip this rowdy Red alongside a hearty meal because it is sure to shine even brighter with a bit of fat to act as a counterpoint to all that fabulous fruit. The finish is at once silky and spicy with luscious weight from the intensely ripe fruit juxtaposed neatly against the peppery heat that makes Old Vine Zinfandel such a great joy to sip. Flamboyant flavors of flashy fruit burst onto the scene with no coaxing as soon as you go in for a sip! Raspberry puree and cranberry syrup sit atop layers of warm brown sugar, cinnamon, and roast plum creating the kind of palate that is certain to hold your attention between sips. So you can imagine our excitement when the local distributor came with a hot deal on their Zinfandel based field blend, Adam & Tamera! I’ll tell you what, this is a freaking mouthful of wine! A blockbuster nose of mid-summer roses and warm cherry cordial is nuanced by darker hints of road tar, damp cedar, and Christmas spices. We’ve been big fans of the Housley’s Century Oak Cabernet for a couple of vintages here at Mile High.
